Everything you need to know about sending your quilt and getting it back safely.

Important: Please message or call us before shipping. We confirm your pattern, thread, timeline, and add-ons — and make sure your spot is clear before your quilt arrives.

How to Ship Your Quilt to Us

Contact Us First

Start with the contact form or call (303) 829-9987 before shipping. We'll confirm your pattern, thread color, timeline, and any add-ons. We reply the same day.

Prepare Your Quilt Top & Backing

Press both your quilt top and backing. Trim loose threads from the back of your top. Cut your backing at least 6–8 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides. Do NOT layer or baste them together.

Pack It Properly

Place your quilt top and backing inside a sealed plastic bag to protect from moisture. Put the bag inside a sturdy cardboard box — no soft poly mailers. Include a note with your name, return address, and pattern preference.

Add Insurance & Tracking

Insure your package for the full value of your quilt materials and time. Use any carrier that offers tracking (USPS, UPS, FedEx). We strongly recommend insurance — it's inexpensive and worth it.

Email Us Your Tracking Number

Once shipped, email your tracking number to tim@burtano.com so we can watch for arrival and have everything ready when your quilt gets here.

  • Contacted us and confirmed pattern, thread, and timeline
  • Quilt top and backing pressed and trimmed
  • Backing is 6–8" larger than quilt top on all sides
  • Top and backing are separate — NOT layered or basted
  • Everything inside a sealed plastic bag
  • Plastic bag inside a sturdy cardboard box
  • Note included: your name, return address, pattern preference
  • Shipment insured for full value
  • Tracking number emailed to tim@burtano.com

How We Return Your Finished Quilt

📦 UPS Ground

All finished quilts are returned via UPS Ground — reliable, scan-by-scan tracking, and photo proof of delivery on every shipment.

🛡️ Insurance Included

Every return shipment includes $100 of UPS insurance at no charge. We recommend additional insurance for quilts valued over $200.

💰 Actual Cost, No Markup

Return shipping is charged at the actual UPS rate — no handling fee, no markup. What UPS charges us is exactly what we charge you.

⏱️ 3–5 Business Days

We ship your quilt back within 3–5 business days of receiving it. You'll get a tracking number by email as soon as it ships.

Backing Size Reminder: Your backing must be at least 6 inches larger than your quilt top on every side (so 12" wider and 12" longer total). Use our backing calculator to get the exact yardage you need.

Sending Fabric for a Rug Order

If you're sending your own fabric for a handmade rug, the process is similar:

  • Contact us first so we can confirm your rug size and color plan
  • Pre-cut strips to 2.5" wide (standard jelly roll width) if possible
  • Place fabric in a sealed plastic bag before boxing
  • Use a sturdy cardboard box
  • Include your name, return address, and desired rug size
  • Use our rug calculator to confirm you're sending enough fabric
